When In The Course Of Human Events….

The United States was founded as a Constitutional Republic, not as a Democracy.  Democracy is also known as the tyranny of the majority.  Two men on a desert island can vote to cook and eat the third.  In contrast, the rights of the minority are protected in a Republic and cannot be voted away by the majority, regardless of their vehemence.

This fact is important to understand on the issue of gun control.  The 2nd Amendment recognizes our pre-existing right of self-defense in the form of the right to keep and bear arms.  In a Republic no majority vote can properly take this right away.

The 10th Amendment is also very applicable on this issue.

10th Amendment: “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”

Our Federal government has assumed vast powers not granted to it by our Constitution and Bill of Rights.  The issue is whether the Federal government will get away with this usurpation or whether its power grab will be checked and limited by “we the people.”  The current IRS scandal and the AP scandal are very significant in this regard.  Will the response to these scandals result in a limitation of Federal power, or will the Obama Administration succeed in brushing these scandals under the rug?

We are at a genuine crossroads in our history.   The sovereignty and freedom of “we the people” are at stake.  The link below elaborates on a crucial issue regarding our freedom.
